Write Better Web Articles: 5 Tips That Really Work!
Poorly written web copy is bad for your health and devastating to your pocket. Outsourcing articles can offer much needed time to focus on the business end of your marketing feats, but it can also backfire by sucking all the personality right out of your project. You can write better web articles today. Here are a few useful tips to help you get started.
1. Take Beyonce's Advice
Remember that emotionally charged scene in "Dreamgirls" when Beyonce's character pours her heart out in song to Jamie Foxx's character? She commands him to listen and allow her to live her own dreams. Next, she gives an uncompromising ultimatum when she croons "...I'll be movin' on if you don't."
Think of your audience as the Jamie Foxx of this scenario. Really listen to what they have to say. Give them the tools to fix their problems and help them to live their dreams. If you don't, I can guarantee they'll move on to someone who will.
2. Be Like 50 Shades' Anastasia Steel and Learn to Like It
When the infamous Ana Steele of "50 Shades of Grey" took her first few rides on the bondage train she wasn't into it much. Spanking, whips and canes just didn't do it for her. However, modifications were made, and as she became more comfortable, she learned to enjoy it.
Writing might not be a thing you enjoy right now, but you can learn to love it. The key is to adapt. All over the web are countless experts telling you to write for your audience. This is sound advice, but don't forget to write for yourself as well. Use writing as a creative outlet to express the things that interest you. Doing so ignites passion, which will make your writing come alive.
3. Silence Your Inner Grammar Nazi
Don't be afraid to break the rules and use a bit of bad grammar here and there. End a sentence with a proposition if it fancies you. In doing this, the authenticity of your voice is translated to your audience and authenticity is one of the cornerstones of effective web writing.
Don't worry about perfection in writing. Nobody likes a perfectionist because perfection is fake. Let your personality genuinely shine through via your unique writing voice. Doing so will add valuable swagger to your articles.
4. Fuel Your Writing With Kryptonite
Yep, I said Kryptonite. No one would be able to relate to Superman, or any other superhero for that matter, if he didn't possess some human weakness. This is not a ticket granting permission to blubber all over the place. You don't want to be annoying, but showing a bit of vulnerability makes your story easier to relate to.
People want to see themselves when they read your perspective. If your audience feels a connection with your writing, it will endear them to you. Once you have formed this connection, you will find that you have a loyal reader for life (or as long as your content remains relevant).
5. If All Else Fails, Take a Page Out of Lindsay Lohan's Book
Here, I'm specifically referring to her prior tendencies toward kleptomania. Thievery can be useful and profitable if undertaken in the correct way.
I am not suggesting that you go out, steal people's ideas, and copy them word for word--claiming them as your own. I am suggesting that you steal the ideas and concepts of those already successful and make them your own.
Familiarity is a highly powerful tool, and mixing familiarity with your own unique ideas can drastically improve the quality of your writing and increase your readership.
So What Are You Waiting For? Start Writing!
Hopefully some of these ideas have begun to work a bit of idea-generating magic in you. Writing doesn't have to be cumbersome or boring. Unless you're managing dozens of websites, you've got the juice to churn out extremely engaging and unique articles whenever you want.
Write something juicy for fun and you'll be on your way to a highly-coveted and sexy online career in no time.
